Sport and Recreation South Africa (SRSA) is the national governmental department responsible for sport in South Africa. One of its focus issues is the struggle against HIV/AIDS, and how sport can be used positively to this end. This is why SRSA is supporting the Sport Heroes Walk for the third time by providing funding that make the successful running of the project possible.

However SRSA’s most visible contribution is the distribution of netball, football, athletics and other sports equipment to needy sports clubs along the route of the Walk. In addition hundreds of soccer balls will  be distributed to children and other sports players who will be participating in the sport clinics that the Sport Heroes will be hosting.

During previous Walks SRSA distributed hampers of equipment that included a golf kit, cricket bats and boxing gloves. This year the value of equipment to be handed over is almost ten times that of previous years, which means it will reach and benefit many more people who may otherwise to have access to quality sports equipment.
